About Dr. Cynthia Barnett

A Dream Big Mentor, Educator, Talented Author and Keynote Speaker who helps mid-life women dream big and live happy

As an educator with over 30 years experience teaching at all levels from kindergarten to university and beyond, I am blessed to have found my calling as a dream big crusader.

While I often lead the classroom, I am a lifelong student as well. I received my bachelor’s degree from New York University and my master’s and doctorate degrees from Columbia University. I am a graduate of Steve Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People program, I received training from Jack Canfield (author of the #1 Best-Seller Chicken Soup for the Soul) as a self-esteem facilitator, I graduated from Coach University – the world’s largest training school for life coaching, and I completed Martin Seligman’s Authentic Happiness Program.

All of my study is reinforced through my work coaching mid-life women how to define their purpose, set goals and take action so they can truly enjoy their lives. I’ve done my best to capture this knowledge in all three of my books: Stop Singing the Blues: 10 Powerful Strategies for Hitting the High Notes in Your Life (E2i Books, 2005), Primetime Makeover: How to Make the Rest of Your Life the Best of Your Life (Aviva Publishing, 2008) and Moments of Gratitude (Aviva Publishing, 2009).

Today, I am living the life of my dreams, which includes wonderful relationships with my family and friends as well as rewarding career as a life coach for mid-wife women of the New York area and the world. But it was not always this way.

Dr. Cynthia’s Story

Forty years ago I left St. Vincent in the Caribbean to come to the United States. I didn’t have any money or career guidance, but I did have a BIG DREAM that included the best education this country had to offer.

I often felt overwhelmed while in school, but I did my best to focus on the light at the end of the tunnel. As a young mother of three girls, I struggled with a divorce, worked in low-paying jobs (which included a pen factory job and a waitressing job just to name a couple), dealt with low self-esteem and excessive weight gain, plus other consequences of being an over-stressed woman.

I believe I was able to overcome the challenges in my life because of my positive outlook, the discipline I developed when studying piano as a young girl and the skills I learned through my life coach training. It’s because of this persistence and commitment to personal development that I was able to earn the highest degree in my field…my DREAM fulfilled.

In addition to my time as a life coach for women over 50, I’ve also spoken at many conferences and conventions as a keynote speaker. I’ve also been featured in the media including a segment on CBS about the Martin Luther King Fulfilling the Dream program and in the Time Magazine article “Women in Mid-life Crisis, Bring it On,” which talked about how women re-invent themselves during mid-life.

Beyond Dream Big Coaching:
Community Service

In addition to my work as a coach, I also dedicate time to the Saturday Academy. This is a non-profit organization I founded for Connecticut-area students who need extra academic support. By making learning fun and enjoyable through hands on science and math activities, we have helped children develop better academic skills and set them up for a more promising future.
